This note discusses accessing files thru a windows network share such as \\stovallhut.online.
Note first that an easy way to manage files is to login over the web to stovallhut.online and run File Station.
But you can also connect with a network share in Windows Explorer. In the address bar type \\stovallhut.online while connected to the the local area network or VPN.
With a VPN connection you can connect to the network share in Windows Explorer remotely as though connected to the local area network.
To make a VPN connection click on the VPN portal at home.stovallhut.online.
Use your Synology Router credentials (not the same as stovallhut.online/other).
Follow the instructions for connecting to the VPN.
Once connected launch Windows Explorer and browse files normally.
To make drive mapping come back after a reboot see the following commands.
net use z: /d
net use z: \\stovallhut.online\DeviceBackups /savecred /persistent:yes
Enter those commands and you get prompted for user/password.
To view/modify saved credentials use cmdkey (similar to a unix keychain).
cmdkey /list
For other access denied/permission errors see this post on reddit ... I have not checked into this as of yet... https://www.reddit.com/r/synology/comments/qu1jl6/cant_access_photo_share_anymore/?%24deep_link=true&correlation_id=090c5a83-3fd4-4a42-9b19-3244cc68d89a&post_fullname=t3_qu1jl6&post_index=4&ref=email_digest&ref_campaign=email_digest&ref_source=email&utm_content=post_title&%243p=e_as&_branch_match_id=985457729061965831&utm_medium=Email%20Amazon%20SES&_branch_referrer=H4sIAAAAAAAAA22P3UrEMBCFn6betd1tYmmFRQTxNcKYzLbR%2FJlMqH17p657JyRw%2BA7nzMxKlMpT32c0xlIHKXXOhs9epOdmkCJdUEF5YBmzXWwAp2p2l%2FVINeKlGd74bdvW%2FeV19Awy%2F7KH6OKys2ToMVBh%2BVXPH248GARSoDWWotIaKaqyQuZhYfcx41EsuFsaxKSOjRrxSrmyMeqYMzogG4OyhvlpPulHmEQrrka2EuTQzu%2FnuRWDlFqPk5lm4FyKhdS1OhfA41En1H2dm2eDwW82JIOMV1bowTpl7IKFblBp8AnsEv53S6xZ491jWMkrHQPx%2FUx%2Fx5Alhz%2B%2B776KeAEAAA%3D%3D

I am going to assume you ran into the same issue as I did, which is explained at this site: https://community.synology.com/enu/forum/1/post/145907?reply=456664
). There are two options.
Option 1 (less secure):
On the NAS, go to Control Panel > File Services > SMB > Advanced Settings > Others > Enable "Enable NTLMv1 authentication"
Option 2 (better), if you are running Windows 10 Pro (not Home version):
Change the windows policy to "Send NTLMv2 response only/refuse LM & NTLM"
